Do you feel trapped in ordinary goggles?
Fluga goggles will give you an extraordinary sense of freedom. The curved lenses sit closer to your eyes, and you will see more than with traditional goggles.

Close-up of Rovfluga goggles on a scaleWeight

Rovfluga goggles are lighter than traditional goggles. A complete pair weighs in at around 110 grams. That is about 50 grams less than the flagship models from the leading brands. This is not only a benefit uphill, but they are also using less material which is good for the planet.

The unique design with two separate lenses instead of one large rigid shield makes the goggles softer. The part in between the lenses acts like a flexible hinge so the goggles will have a great fit no matter the size and shape of the wearer. Superbly comfortable!

Modular Design

Modify and improve your goggles over time. Get a new pair of lenses, strap or frame. Update and renew instead of buying new.

We have tested Rovfluga goggles with a lot of different glasses and it works. You can wear your prescription glasses underneath. If the frames are within the maximum measurements (144mm x 55mm), it should be ok.
There will be a tiny gap at the temples – extra ventilation 😉 depending on the shape/size of the glasses and your head.

Visible light transmittanceInterchangeable lenses

Weather conditions can dramatically differ – from sunny to foggy, from snowy to rainy. Clearly seeing the terrain is essential. An advantage with the Fluga design is that you can always carry another pair of lenses with you. Being out all day you often encounter varying light conditions. Our lenses pack smaller than large traditional ones and they come in a small pouch that you can easily fit in your pocket. There are different lenses for various sun and snow conditions.

Anti Fog

The goggles have great anti-fog properties, achieved using a sandwich construction – ZEISS lens, foam gasket and anti-fog coated inner lens made by Mazzucchelli 1849.
For optimal fit and function together with a helmet, the top ventilation inlets are front facing, allowing best possible airflow.

Zeiss logotype

Our lenses highlight critical red, green, and yellow portions of the spectrum in order to allow normal color perception, provide comfort in bright reflective conditions or when the sun sets.

We add different mirrors to our lenses. The combination of base color together with a certain mirror creates different properties and looks.

Note that all Fluga original lenses have a laser engraved ZEISS logo.

Lens Information

Blue Light

Mountains in Tignes in various light.

The snow reflects the sky which is blue. This means that the eye is overwhelmed by blue light and it is difficult to read the shades of the snow. The same applies when looking at the sky.

However, some blue light is needed by the eye to “read” the snow. It is therefore necessary to have the right amount of blue light into the eye.

The correct lenses for this environment partially reduces a portion of blue light and enables you to read the different shades of the snow. Instead of seeing the snow as a flat blue surface, you will be able to see moguls and hollows.

Lens colors and mirrors

We offer two base lenses/filers: orange and grey. These base lenses/filters are combined with different mirrors to create unique solutions for seeing more and protecting your eyes in various conditions.

Orange lenses are more focused on creating contrast in cloudy, low light to partially cloudy conditions and the grey base lenses are more about reducing light in bright and sunny conditions.

Orange
ENHANCED CONTRASTS: the peak of yellow/green in the spectral curve allows to see contrasts, gradation and shade of the slope.
SNOW DETECTOR: good vision of contrasts together combined with the partial reduction of blue light lets read the different shades of the snow.

Grey
NEUTRAL AND NATURAL: natural perception of colors thanks to the flat shape of the spectral curve.
BLUE LIGHT REDUCTION: The blue light is gradually reduced
COMFORT: the result is a comfortable vision without overload to the eye. Ideal for extended use.

Mirrors and Coatings
The color on the mirror is for creating a certain effect in combination with the lens/filter color. It’s all about performance, not looks!

Choose the Right Lenses

Choosing the right lens for the conditions you will encounter is key!

The important thing to think about when choosing lenses is not what they look like, but what you want them to do!

Do you remember days with flat light, and you couldn’t see a thing? After a while you were just tossed around, so you skipped the rest of the day…

It wasn’t your fault, it was your goggles, but we have the solution – lenses for all conditions. Read on and choose the right lenses!

The most important question you must ask yourself is: where will I use the goggles and what type of weather or sunlight will I have? Be honest now, we all like to remember those clear blue skies but that is not always the case, is it?

  • If you will have snowy or cloudy or mixed conditions most of the time (or ski in the north with less light) you need to get a pair of contrast enhancing lenses. The solution is our orange base lenses with various mirrors/coating depending on how light/dark you want them. If you only get one pair of lenses get an orange base.
  • If you only ski in sunny and bright conditions (like spring skiing) and never in the shade you can choose a neutral grey base lens.
  • If you have the possibility, get two pairs of lenses (or more depending on your budget) to cover as wide a range as possible.

Another important point - don’t choose a lens that is too dark. Unfortunately many people do that mistake. The goggles are there to make you see better. All our lenses provide 100% UVA/UVB protection so that is nothing you need to worry about. We have taken care about that.

Visible Light Transmission

When there is low light, you need an lens that allows a lot of visible light to be transmitted to the eye. In strong sunlight, you need a lens that blocks a larger portion of visible light. This is what is called VLT – Visible Light Transmission.

The higher the percentage, the more visible light is transmitted through the lens, and the opposite. Lenses for downhill skiing are tested and categorized in to 5 categories based on VLT.
